ChatGPT Can Now Listen and Summarize Your Meetings

OpenAI has rolled out a new record mode in ChatGPT, which allows you to capture, transcribe, and summarize spoken conversations like meetings, brainstorming sessions, and voice notes. The feature is currently available on macOS through the ChatGPT desktop app for Enterprise, Team, Edu, and Pro subscribers.
Once enabled, you can click on a new Record button in any chat to start using it. ChatGPT will then transcribe the audio in real time, showing a live timer and transcript during the session. When finished, the AI will generate a structured summary in a private “canvas” that’s saved to the user’s chat history.
Interestingly, these summaries are not static. This means that you can edit them directly or ask ChatGPT to turn the content into different formats like a project plan, an email, or even code. What sets the feature apart is its ability to refer back to past transcripts and summaries across conversations, providing added context and continuity in future chats.
Apart from that, each recording session can last up to 120 minutes. Once that limit is reached, the recording stops automatically, and a summary is generated. The feature is being rolled out gradually, and OpenAI says it’s available at no additional cost.
OpenAI is also cautioning users to use the feature responsibly. It notes that ChatGPT may make transcription errors, so users should double-check any important details. It also reminds users to follow local laws around consent when recording conversations, especially when others are involved.
The addition of record mode continues OpenAI’s push to make ChatGPT more useful in everyday work and productivity settings. Recently, the AI giant has unveiled a host of new features to its platform. For example, the Projects feature on the ChatGPT now supports deeper integrations, more tools, and mobile improvements. Besides, OpenAI has upgraded its search feature in ChatGPT, making it more intelligent, accurate, and responsive to complex queries.
