Google’s Next AI Update Might Just Be Its Cutest Yet

NotebookLM Video Overviews Update

It seems like Google is working on a new style for the Video Overviews feature on NotebookLM. According to a post by Testing Catalog on X, the company is working on a new “Kawaii” style for its Video Overviews feature in NotebookLM. Kawaii, a Japanese term meaning “cute,” refers to a culture of cuteness expressed in fashion, art, and design.

Interestingly, Simon, who leads NotebookLM, commented on the post by saying, “We are holding it back while the team makes it even more kawaii. True story.” This confirms that the project is in the works and hints that Google will refine the style before release.

Though the company has recently upgraded its Video Overview feature,  which now includes six styles: Watercolor, Papercraft, Anime, Whiteboard, Retro Print, and Heritage, each of these styles gives a unique look, from playful animations to professional explainer visuals. These updates are backed by Google’s latest Nano Banana model, which can generate contextual illustrations from uploaded content.

Additionally, NotebookLM mobile app has received a new studio design for creating audio overviews. It now allows you to generate multiple audio versions per notebook with different languages, lengths, and customizations, giving more flexibility in how content is consumed.
