Perplexity Is Building an AI-Powered Try-On Feature for Customers

Perplexity is quietly working on a new AI-powered “Try On” feature designed to let users preview clothing on themselves before hitting the buy button. The feature was first spotted by TestingCatalog. It is expected to allow shoppers to pick a product, for example, a hoodie, upload a personal photo, and receive an AI-generated image showing how the item would look on them. Something similar to what we have seen with Glance AI or Google AI Shopping.
The feature is said to be using image generation technology to give users a visual sense of fit and style. This is Perplexity’s latest attempt to make online shopping more intuitive. In the past, the AI tech giant has made efforts like one-click buying and bundled delivery for Perplexity Pro users.

Although there’s no official release date, TestingCatalog reports that the try-on feature is under internal testing and will likely roll out after more feedback and refinements. If launched, it would directly compete with Google’s experimental virtual try-on feature, which is still in a limited rollout.
Not Just a Search Tool Anymore
Perplexity is majorly associated with AI-powered search and productivity tools. However, the company is constantly trying our new features and capabilities as well. In recent times, the company has shown a clear shift toward building a broader ecosystem around its core search engine.
For example, Perplexity recently expanded its Spaces feature. It now allows you to add connectors to Spaces, allowing files from services like Google Drive and Dropbox to become part of each Space’s knowledge base. This tweak makes it easier for teams or solo users to pull in relevant documents and work materials for real-time collaboration and research.
Apart from that, last week, Perplexity rolled out AI video generation for its @AskPerplexity chatbot on X (formerly Twitter). It now allows you to tag the handle with a prompt and, optionally, an image to get an 8-second AI-generated video in response. The feature includes support for multi-character dialogue, audio, and scene composition. It’s currently open to all users and has content safeguards in place to block recreations of celebrities or real-world figures.
Partnerships Fuel the Push
Perplexity has also partnered with Wiley to integrate academic content into its search results, PayPal to support in-chat shopping and payments, and Fireflies.ai for real-time search integrations in productivity workflows.
Furthermore, talks are also underway with Samsung to bring Perplexity’s AI assistant to millions of Galaxy devices globally. So, from AI video to virtual try-ons, Perplexity seems intent on proving it’s more than just a search engine. While the Try On feature isn’t live yet, it signals where the company is heading towards becoming a multipurpose AI companion that blends productivity, creativity, and commerce.
