Perplexity is Quietly Testing ‘Projects’

Low-code or no-code AI tools are in the trend these days. Now, it seems like Perplexity is joining this bandwagon with an upcoming feature called ‘Projects’. This forthcoming feature was spotted on the beta version of iOS. Though the company hasn’t officially announced it, early signs suggest that it will allow users to create structured outputs like documents, tools, or even web apps within the Perplexity interface. The details were first reported by TestingCatalog, who spotted the new feature in the wild.
This feature could allow users to generate and publish self-contained applications using AI, with public “Project” pages already indexed by search engines. The beta version shows internal tabs such as Assets and App, where users can view downloadable ZIP files of outputs or preview rendered applications. If this feature turns out to be true, as we are talking about, then it will be a far more interactive and generative workflow than anything Perplexity currently offers.
Furthermore, some of these outputs are reportedly deployable to AWS as static sites. This indicates that Perplexity is building a pipeline where the AI doesn’t just generate content but also hosts usable, shareable products.
If this feature sees the light of day, Perplexity will be in direct competition with other emerging players like Manus AI, who also blend code generation and contextual AI search. It could also compete with tools like Lovable, Bubble, Airtable, and more. Maybe not in a head-to-head competition, but the feature could operate in the same niche.
However, this is not the only feature that the company is working on. Recently, Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas hinted about another upcoming feature for Comet. In a recent tweet, he shared that Comet will bring virtual meeting recording, transcription, and in-meeting search capabilities, though they won’t be available at launch. The browser-based version of Comet is expected to arrive within the next three to five weeks.
With Projects and Comet in the pipeline, Perplexity is clearly shifting from a smart search engine to a more full-featured AI productivity suite. The company hasn’t revealed official release timelines or full capabilities yet, but these leaks hint at a broader vision.
