Geekflare’s This Week in Business Tech: AI Domination, Jira Updates, & More
The past week has been all about AI as the Chinese startup DeepSeek shocked the entire world with its latest R1 model, Alibaba launched its new AI model, and a lot more. However, it was not only AI buzz. Jira, the popular project management tool, also introduced some new features, and Google launched a dedicated Chrome Web Store for enterprises.
So, if you have missed all these updates, don’t worry. I am at your rescue. I have compiled all the major happenings of the week. Let’s get started!
DeepSeek Dethrones ChatGPT on the Apple App Store in the US
A couple of days ago, DeepSeek, an AI startup from China, overtook ChatGPT on the Apple App Store in the US.
According to Sensor Tower, DeepSeek ranked first in the ‘Top Free iPhone Apps’ chart in the ‘Productivity’ category.
DeepSeek’s success can be attributed to its open-source approach, which allows developers to fine-tune and train model variations for specific tasks. This flexibility, combined with lower API costs and a free website and mobile app, has made DeepSeek a popular choice among users.
Alibaba Launches New AI Model, Claims to Outperform DeepSeek-V3
The launch of DeepSeek not only sparked competition in Silicon Valley but also created buzz in its home country. As a result, Alibaba launched its next-gen AI model, called Qwen 2.5, on the Chinese New Year. It features advanced capabilities such as natural language processing, text generation, image and audio handling, chatbot interactions, and AI tool integration. Besides that, the model aims to compete with leading AI models such as OpenAI’s GPT-4o and DeepSeek-V3.
Google Launched New Chrome Web Store for Enterprises
Managing Chrome extensions has always been a struggle, mainly for enterprises. However, Google has recognized this issue and released a new Chrome Web Store, which is especially for businesses. It aims to enhance browser extension management and security for organizations.
The web store also allows companies to create a curated list of vetted extensions, which eliminates the risks associated with malicious add-ons that can compromise security. The store is already live through the Chrome Enterprise Core for all organizations and is completely free.
Jira Introduces New Options for Mapping Issue Types and Hierarchies
Jira also launched some new features that give more control over how issue types are mapped while importing data. It allows users to assign specific issue types like Epic, Task, Story, Bug, or Subtask—during the import process. This removes the previous limitation where all imported issues defaulted to the “Task” type.
Moreover, the update also improves how hierarchical relationships are managed during imports. It now allows users to add columns in their CSV files to specify parent-child relationships between issues. By mapping columns such as “Issue ID” and “Parent,” imported data retains its original structure, which is quite a useful update for someone who manages large projects with multiple dependencies.
That’s all we have for this week’s highlights. But if you want to stay updated with all the latest happenings in the Business Tech or AI world, make sure you follow us on Google News. We’ll keep you updated!
