Verdict
Maxun is the closest open source option to a point-and-click scraping tool that people without coding skills can use, with schedules and Google Sheets export. The free edition has one workspace and no team features, and the default Compose file lets the backend use up to 6 GB of memory.
Best for
Business teams that want to build scrapers without writing code
Not for
Teams that need several users with roles on a self-hosted install
Pros
- Record clicks in a browser to build a reusable robot
- Schedules, webhooks and exports to Google Sheets and Airtable
- AI mode works with Ollama, OpenAI or Anthropic models
- REST API, SDKs, CLI and MCP server
Cons
- Teams, SAML SSO and Deep Extraction are only in the cloud
- One workspace in the self-hosted edition
- Version numbers are still 0.0.x
- The current Compose file needs two fixes before it runs

Maxun features and capabilities
Recorder robots
Someone without coding skills clicks through a site in a browser, and Maxun saves the steps as a robot that can run again on the same or similar pages.
AI extraction
Describe the fields you want and an LLM builds the robot, using Ollama on your own server or an OpenAI or Anthropic key.
Schedules and change monitoring
Robots run every few minutes, hours or days, and monitoring marks a run when its output differs from the last one.
Integrations
Results go to webhooks, Google Sheets or Airtable, or are read through the REST API, SDKs, CLI or MCP server.
Pages and sites as Markdown
Scrape and Crawl robots save pages as Markdown or HTML, ready to load into an AI pipeline.

Free vs paid editions
What you get when you self-host, and what needs a paid plan.
The self-hosted Community Edition includes recorder and AI robots, scraping, crawling, search, monitoring, schedules, the API, SDKs and webhooks, in a single workspace. Maxun Cloud adds Deep Extraction, teams with roles, SAML SSO, CAPTCHA handling, managed proxies and email alerts. Cloud plans start at $19 a month after a 7-day free trial.
Self-hosting Maxun
Maxun does not publish hardware requirements. Its Compose file runs PostgreSQL, MinIO, the backend, the frontend and a browser service, with a 6 GB memory limit on the backend and 1 GB reserved for the browser.

- The first docker compose up failed, because MinIO removed its images from Docker Hub in October 2026 and the Compose file still points there. A community build, pgsty/minio, worked as a drop-in replacement.
- With prebuilt images it was up in 47 seconds and used 582 MB at idle. The Compose file still uses PostgreSQL 13, which reached end of life in November 2025.
- Registration hung until I replaced the placeholder URLs that the env script writes. The first robot run then failed in four seconds, because the script also leaves out BROWSER_WS_HOST, so the backend looked for the browser inside its own container.
- After that, a crawl robot built in the UI with no code fetched 50 pages of the test catalogue in 98 seconds and showed each page's Markdown and metadata.

Competitor price tracking
Record a robot on a product listing once and schedule it to send prices to Google Sheets every morning.
Lead lists from directories
Extract company names and links from public directories without asking a developer to write a scraper.
Site content snapshots
Crawl a site into Markdown on a schedule to keep an archive of how pages changed.
