ai-art

Although there are many AI art generation software, Adobe Firefly is becoming famous among enterprises due to its unique and easy-to-use interface.

Regardless of the user’s creative skills, Adobe Firefly lets them create or generate innovative images.

In this article, I’ll discuss what Adobe Firefly is, its features, how it helps organizations achieve their goals, and how it differs from other AI art generation tools.

Here we go!

What Is Adobe Firefly? An Overview

Adobe Firefly is a creative and generative AI system designed by Adobe to help businesses and individuals design and create wonderful images, illustrations, scenes, and styles.

Organizations can easily integrate their business with Adobe’s Creative Cloud solutions. It is now in the beta stage, so only available to Adobe Creative Cloud subscribers who request access.

Firefly

To access Firefly currently, you can go in two ways:

  • First, using a browser on the Firefly website
  • Second, within Adobe Photoshop’s beta version

At present, it has limited tools, such as text-to-image, text effects, and generative fill. However, there are other tools in work, including sketch to image, text to vector, text to pattern, and 3D to image.

According to Adobe, the art generator of Adobe is trained on its stock photos, public domain content, and openly licensed content. This is a unique step taken by Adobe to help users create high-quality generative images as compared to other AI art tools, such as Stability AI and Midjourney

Adobe Firefly helps enhance creators’ power by allowing them to write text prompts and get the content they want. This includes audio, videos, images, and vectors using color gradients, brushes, video transformation, and more with ease and speed.

Firefly

Although other AI art generators are useful, Firefly will become more special due to its integration with Adobe’s services and tools. This helps users leverage the power of generative AI within the workflows.

Adobe Photoshop is now more advanced than ever because of Firefly integration. This helps users use words to generate or create images using “Generative Fill”. It allows you to add or remove content or replace parts of the image. You can also extend the edges of an image using a new generative layer.

If you want to access Adobe Firefly, visit the official website of Firefly and experiment with a wide range of generative features and functions from its website. Additionally, you can alter your existing images with a generative fill feature using the Photoshop Beta application.

Adobe Firefly: Features

Firefly offers many valuable and advanced features to users that they can explore in order to generate outstanding images. The features are:

#1. Text-to-Image

Text to image

Text-to-image is a straightforward option for users who want to generate images by writing their requirements and selecting styles. The user interface is easy. In the prompt bar available below on your screen, you just need to write the prompt.

For example, you write a prompt, “Adorable cat catching mouse”. After clicking on “generate”, Firefly pulls its training data from the stock library of Adobe and shows it on your screen. When you first click on this option, Firefly will present many inspirations that tell you about the possibility of using prompts for image generation.

You can take the visual inspiration to understand what you need to write. If you know already, type it in the prompt directly. To get the exact image, you can select from various options, like styles, composition, color, Aspect ratio, etc.

These are the technical parameters that help you reshape your image. Thus, Firefly has a gentler learning curve and an efficient workflow.

#2. Generative Fill

Generative Fill

The “Generative Fill” option is available on Adobe Firefly’s website in the beta stage. It is also available for Photoshop beta users. In Photoshop, you can use this feature to highlight a particular area and replace that part with something else to get a beautiful output.

For example, you have an image showing a ninja warrior in a dense forest. If you want to change the lighting, add lighting effects to it, or change the sky color, Generative Fill is the option you need for that.

You might not get the desired results on your first attempt, but you will get them when you know the secret behind it. After highlighting the broad swaths of the image, let Firefly do the magic with its creativity from your description.

In simple words. You can use “Generative Fill” to superimpose new scenes or objects onto the photo.

Settings:

  • Insert: In this mode; you can add elements to your images.
  • Remove: In this mode; you can move elements.
  • Pan: This allows you to move the image.
  • Add: This lets you erase some parts of the image and add something in that place.
  • Subtract: This option helps you remove aspects of the image.
  • Background: This option allows you to remove the surrounding background of an image.

#3. Text Effects

Text effects

All the features you find in the beta version of Firefly are useful to meet the needs of designers. The text effect is a feature that every designer wants to use to enhance their artwork. This feature allows you to turn your simple text into amazing artwork.

Artists and designers can use this feature to add textures quickly without taking significant time. For now, Firefly supports only a few fonts, and the text length is limited to only 20 characters.

Here, you can write any text and generate its style. To use this, you need to know some settings:

  • Sample: You can select the nature, material or texture, and food and drink style for your design from the options, including flowers, snakes, driftwood, and more.
  • Text effects fit: You can choose from three options for your texts – tight, medium, and loose.
  • Color: It changes your background and text color from different options of your color.

#4. Generative Recolor

Generative Recolor

Vector recoloring is a tailor-made feature for designers where they can expand the vector files at high resolution without losing quality. So, designers use this feature for commercial print work. This feature is crucial for assets like signs, vehicle wraps, billboards, and more.

If you have used Adobe Illustrator, you may have filled in the colors manually in the vector image. But with this unique feature, you can experience a wide range of color combinations and apply them automatically with certain prompts.

To use this feature, you need to upload an SVG file and then choose from various options to get what you want. Some options to know:

  • Sample prompts: You can choose from sample prompts like salmon sushi, lavender storm, sandy stone beach, dark blue midnight, and more.
  • Harmony: It comes with options like default, complementary, analogous, triad, square, and split complementary.
  • Style: You can also select or deselect the option “preserve black and white” to change the look of the image.

#5. Natural Language Processing (NLP)

Nlp

Adobe Firefly uses the power of NLP to understand the text description in order to create visual content that matches your specifications. This enables you to create stunning and high-quality images more efficiently.

#6. Image Enhancements

Using Firefly, you can improve images by utilizing the simple process of applying compositions or styles. Adding textures and styles to the objects and letters is now easy, making the images more polished and professional.

#7. Other Features

Firefly provides you with several other amazing features and benefits. Let’s discuss them one by one.

  • Smart interface: The UI of Firefly is intuitive, smart, and user-friendly. All the options are easy to find. Even newbies can use Firefly without previous experience. You can easily create images and designs with its options. In addition, you can use its examples and get started quickly. Just customize the design, and you are good to go.
  • Innovative editing features: Firefly has different innovative features for editing and creating designs in the pipeline, such as 3D-to-image, image extensions, generative refilling, and more. This enables both beginners and pro designers to easily unlock their potential to create unique designs.
  • Meta-content: Firefly images carry meta-content that indicates that the images are generated using Firefly AI. This means you can use the images with full authenticity, which promotes credibility and transparency.
  • Inspiring examples: Firefly offers several examples that can inspire you to create quality content. This feature is simple to use for beginners who are just starting their journey into an AI art world.
  • Integrations: Many features of Firefly will be incorporated into the applications of Adobe, including Illustrator, Photoshop, Express, AEM, and more. This integration will allow designers to use any of the tools within their workflows to streamline their design process.

How Is Firefly Different from Other AI Art Generators?

Firefly’s competitors are many, including OpenAI’s Dall-E and Midjourney. AI art generators like these contain almost similar features, but they do differ in presenting the final image using ML models.

Firefly-vs-other-AI-art-generators

Firefly stands in the front row due to its capabilities, such as integration with Adobe’s tools, including Photoshop, Illustrator, etc. These tools can further be used for post-generation editing. In addition, it generates images with a different style on top of words that can be easily adjusted by changing, deleting, or adding text from the real text.

However, in other art generators, if you want to add or remove any word from the text, you need to write the full text again to generate an image.

In the case of Midjourney, it is trained by many designers and artists on a text and picture dataset. This means that the image it generates is likely to be imaginative and aesthetically appealing. In addition, MIdjourney’s datasets are taken from the internet without seeking copyright holders’ consent. As a result, many artists have sued them over copyright infringement.

On the other hand, Firefly aims to avoid such scenarios. It’s trained on publicly available text and picture datasets. This means Firefly images are likely to be realistic rather than just innovative and imaginative, as with Midjourney. So, Adobe Firefly is safer for companies.

Adobe Firefly is in open beta and available on its website for free. On the other hand, Midjourney is currently accessible only by invitation using the Discord server, which has a clunky user interface.

Furthermore, Firefly’s composition style is better than DALL E2 and comparable to Stable Diffusion and Midjourney. DALL E2’s outputs are not that photorealistic, while Stable Diffusion has a little learning curve.

So, out of these, Adobe Firefly can be a better option.

Conclusion

Adobe Firefly is a newcomer in the world of AI art generators. Since Adobe has deeper expertise in the industry, the adoption of the tool is likely to be high. Even though it is in the beta stage, designers can use Firefly to generate the images they want.

You will get many advanced features and capabilities in this tool to enhance image generation. The best part is you can download the images on a transparent background. In addition, the resolution of the image is higher than other AI art generators.

Adobe uses AI ethically by watermarking and embedding metadata in every image. So, it ensures that the images you get are identifiable and responsibly used. If you want to try this one, just sign in to its beta stage and start creating realistic images.
