OpenAI Seems to Have Quietly Launched ₹399 ChatGPT Go Plan in India

It seems like OpenAI has quietly launched a new ChatGPT Go plan, priced at ₹399 per month, which is around $4. The plan seems to be offering more features than the free tier at a fraction of the cost of its Plus subscription. It was first spotted in the ChatGPT web app code a week ago, when it was speculated to cost less than a coffee or under $5, and a prediction that has now turned out to be accurate. 

The new tier appears to be available only in India for now. Popular X account Tibor Blaho noticed that the Go plan has already been added to the pricing page for some users, but availability seems limited. When I checked my own account, the plan wasn’t there. So I am expecting that OpenAI may be rolling it out gradually.

If we go by the pricing page screenshot shared by Blaho, the ₹399 plan includes access to the newly launched GPT-5, expanded messaging and uploads, expanded image creation, deep research with some limitations, longer memory and context, and extended advanced data analysis. 

So basically, the plan offers everything in the free plan along with some upgrades. However, it misses out on the full range of advanced reasoning and unlimited access available in the higher-priced Plus and Pro tiers.

It seems like the launch of the new affordable plan was scheduled to arrive just after the latest GPT-5 launch. As the company has a very large user base in India, where the majority of the users were using the free account as the pricing was not India-centric. But now, with the much more affordable offering, it seems like the company wants to expand the reach of its paid services to the masses.
