Perplexity’s AI Browser Comet Is Now Free for Everyone

Comet Browser now available for everyone

Perplexity recently launched its AI-powered Comet browser. Earlier, it was available only for paid users, but now the company has rolled it out globally for free.

This is not your traditional web browser; it is designed to function as both a web browser and a personal AI assistant. It goes beyond basic search and offers capabilities like scheduling meetings, generating Zoom links, drafting emails, compiling reports, and managing tabs. It also connects with enterprise tools like Gmail, calendar, Slack, and CRM. So professionals can cut down on repetitive tasks.

When it comes to privacy, Perplexity says Comet only accesses limited, purpose-specific data when users explicitly request personalized help.

However, what sets Comet apart is its “agentic” AI approach. Instead of requiring constant prompts, Comet can understand context and execute multi-step tasks on its own, like running vendor research, analyzing customer data, or creating content.

I tested Comet myself by asking it to find the cheapest option to buy the iPhone 16 Pro. The browser not only searched the web for the best deal but also took me directly to the checkout page, something no traditional browser does.

Perplexity is positioning Comet as a faster, more intuitive way to use the internet, calling it “the better internet experience.” With its global rollout, the company is betting that users will embrace AI-driven browsing not just for speed. But how well people will accept this new web browsing approach is something only time will tell.
