Every seventh night in 7 Days to Die, the Blood Moon rises and the horde comes for your base. That’s the worst possible moment for your server to stutter and it happens a lot when you host in home or low end servers.
A dedicated server runs around the clock, so friends can play when you’re offline, and it’s built to handle horde nights, big random-gen maps, and overhaul mods like Darkness Falls.
The game has changed a lot since initial release. Version 3.0, “Dead Hot Summer”, brought 150 sandbox options and changed how server settings are stored. Dedicated servers also support crossplay with PS5 and Xbox with some limitations I’ll cover below.

Best 7 Days to Die Server Hosting
01. Host Havoc
Slot-based plansModded servers running overhauls like Darkness Falls
Host Havoc is the host I’d choose for a modded 7DTD server. You an install the big overhauls, Darkness Falls, War of the Walkers, and Ravenhearst, in one click through the control panel.
It supports both the stable build and the experimental branch, so you can test a new update before your main world moves to it.
Servers run on Host Havoc’s modified TCAdmin v2 panel, with a web console, file manager, Workshop installer, log viewer, offsite backups, and restores.
Crossplay works too, though the game itself caps crossplay servers at 8 players. Keep that in mind if you buy a large slot plan, the extra slots only help on a PC-only server.

What V3.0 Changed for Server Owners
Version 3.0 was the biggest update since 1.0, and it changed a few important things.
V3.0 added 150 sandbox options, from turning off zombie digging to permadeath presets like Bite Club. Many settings that used to live as separate lines in serverconfig.xml, including difficulty, XP multiplier, day length, and blood moon frequency, are now stored in a single SandboxCode property.
V3.0 added more than 60 new POIs and reworked world generation, so hosts recommend starting a fresh map if you want to see all of it.
Since V2.0, PS5 and Xbox players can join dedicated servers, but the game limits crossplay servers to 8 players, requires Easy Anti-Cheat to be on, and console players can’t join a server that runs mods. The official crossplay server requirements list the exact settings.
How to Choose a 7DTD Hosting
- For a mixed PC and console group, pick a host that support crossplay, like Survival Servers, GTXGaming, or Nitrado, and stay at 8 players. For a modded PC server, Host Havoc.
- Bigger random-gen maps need more memory. As a rough idea, 8 players on a 4K to 6K map runs on 5 to 10 GB, while 16 to 30 players on 8K to 10K maps want 12 to 16 GB.
- SparkedHost and Nodecraft have free trials, Survival Servers and G-Portal sell three-day servers, and refund windows range from 24 hours (GTXGaming) to 14 days (DatHost).
