Valheim left Early Access on September 9, 2026. Version 1.0 brought the Deep North, the last biome on the map, and the game launched on PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2 the same day. Every platform can now share one world.
That changes what to look for in a host. A year ago most groups were all on Steam. Now the friend on PS5 needs crossplay switched on, your mods need to have survived the 1.0 update, and a backup taken before your old world converts to the new save format is worth more than an extra gigabyte of RAM.
A rented server also fixes the oldest Valheim annoyance: the world only exists while the person hosting it is online. On a dedicated server, anyone can log in at 2 AM to chop wood without waiting for whoever owns the save.
We checked gaming hosting providers after 1.0 shipped, and compared prices, slot limits, locations, crossplay, mod tools, and refund terms. Below are the final list.

Best Valheim Server Hosting
01. Host Havoc
Fixed 10-slot planGroups that want mods without editing files
Host Havoc keeps its Valheim offer simple. There’s one plan, ten slots for $9.99 a month, and the price drops a little if you pay for three, six, or twelve months at once. You choose from 14 locations, from Seattle and Miami to Frankfurt, Singapore, and Sydney.
Mods are where it pulls ahead. BepInEx is built into the control panel, and any mod on Thunderstore installs with one click, ValheimPlus and Epic Loot included. After 1.0 broke half the mod scene, being able to swap versions without touching config files saves real time.
Crossplay works across the board. PC and Xbox players connect by IP, and PS5 or Switch 2 players type in the code shown in the panel. World modifiers such as raid frequency and combat difficulty sit on the same screen, and offsite backups run on their own.
Host Havoc owns its hardware, a mix of Xeon and Ryzen CPUs on NVMe storage. If a heavily built base starts to stutter, a $4 add-on raises your server’s CPU priority.

02. ScalaCube
Fixed 10-slot planSmall groups that want plenty of RAM for mod packs
ScalaCube was best known for its free Valheim tier. That’s gone. The company now says outright that it no longer gives away Valheim servers, so treat older reviews that mention it with care.
What’s left is a single 10-slot plan at $14 a month, and it’s generous for that size: 32 GB of RAM, an eight-core CPU at 3.4 GHz, and 320 GB of SSD space. A vanilla world won’t come close to using that, which leaves plenty of room for heavy mod packs.
Its 13 locations include four US cities, Canada, the UK, France, Germany, Poland, Finland, Singapore, and Australia, plus India and Brazil, which several hosts on this list skip. You also get a free subdomain and full FTP access.
One caution. ScalaCube’s Valheim page hasn’t caught up with 1.0 and says nothing about crossplay or Deep North. If anyone in your group plays on PS5 or Switch 2, ask support to confirm before you pay.

03. GTXGaming
Slot and RAM tiersCommunities that need more than 10 players
If ten players isn’t enough, start here. Vanilla Valheim still caps a world at 10 players after 1.0, so GTXGaming ships every plan above 10 slots with Valheim Plus already configured. Its biggest tier holds 64.
The UK company updated all its servers on 1.0 launch day, and crossplay for PC, Xbox, PS5, and Switch 2 is a single toggle. Sixteen locations cover Europe and North America well, with Sydney and Singapore for the other side of the world.
The control panel is GTXGaming’s own, with a world manager, config editor, live console, and resource graphs. Backups run daily and restore from the same screen. If a sprawling base starts to lag, you can pay for CPU priority or a clock boost of 5% to 20%.
Pricing is fair at the small end, then climbs fast. Ten slots with 10 GB of RAM cost about $12.66 a month. Going to 24 slots more than triples that.

04. DatHost
All-inclusive planFriends spread across different continents
DatHost has the widest map on this list, about 49 cities. That includes places most game hosts ignore, such as Johannesburg, São Paulo, Dubai, Tokyo, and Auckland. If your crew lives on different continents, that alone can settle it.
There’s one plan, and it isn’t split into slot or RAM tiers. You get 16 GB of DDR5, 30 GB of NVMe, DDoS protection up to 2 Tbps, and CPU and RAM use that isn’t hard capped, on Ryzen 9 7950X-class machines. The same subscription can switch to other games too, handy if your group rotates between Valheim and something else.
1.0 was live on the default branch from launch, and DatHost says game updates land within 15 minutes of release. Console players join with codes. BepInEx installs in one click, and you can upload your own mods.

05. Survival Servers
Custom slot builderWeekend sessions and mixed PC and console groups
Survival Servers lets you rent a 10-slot Valheim server for just three days, at $3.89. That suits a weekend push into Deep North, or a quick test of a mod pack before you commit to a month.
Month to month, 10 slots cost $12.95 and 32 slots cost $49, and a custom builder lets you set your own slot count. RAM and storage aren’t metered on any plan. You can move your server to another location whenever you like, and a Premium tier swaps SSD and DDR4 for NVMe, DDR5, and overclocked CPUs.
The extra worth knowing about is ValheimOne, a live world map and web console built into the panel. It runs on the server, so it works whether your friends play on PC, Xbox, PS5, or Switch 2. Crossplay across all four is on by default.
Valheim Plus and BepInEx install straight from the panel. Other Thunderstore mods need a manual upload through the file manager.

06. G-PORTAL
Prepaid slot termsPlayers who want test builds and slots they can move between games
G-PORTAL sells time more than plans. You prepay for 3, 30, 90, 180, or 365 days, and the longer terms knock 10% to 20% off. A 10-slot server costs about $15.59 for 30 days in London and $17.30 in New York.
Its Gamecloud system is the clever part. The slots you pay for aren’t locked to Valheim, so you can move them to another G-PORTAL game while the group takes a break, then bring them back.
The panel is well stocked for Valheim. ValheimPlus is built in, BepInEx and Thunderstore mods install from a Mods tab, and you can switch to Iron Gate’s public test builds. You also get 50 GB of backup space and a savegame import. Locations reach Mumbai, Tokyo, Taipei, and São Paulo alongside the usual US and European cities.

07. Shockbyte
RAM and player tiersGroups that want clear plans and easy refunds
Shockbyte names its Valheim plans after the game’s bosses, and they’re sized in a way that makes sense. Eikthyr covers four players, Bonemass seven, and Yagluth the full ten.
Its refund policy is the easiest here. For 72 hours after paying, you can refund yourself from the control panel without messaging anyone.
Crossplay covers PC, Xbox, PS5, and Switch 2, and servers were updated for 1.0. BepInEx and ValheimPlus are supported, with full FTP access for anything else. Hardware goes up to AMD EPYC 4465P CPUs on NVMe, across eight Valheim locations that include India, Japan, and Brazil.
Backups are the weak spot, it keeps only three.

08. Nitrado
Fixed 10-slot planCasual groups that rotate between several games
Nitrado, one of the bigger German game server companies, keeps Valheim simple: ten slots, one size, and the same price in London or New York. A 30-day rental costs $16.19, and a full year works out to about $13 a month.
You can install up to five games on the same server and switch between them, which suits a group that doesn’t play Valheim every night. Crossplay for PC, Xbox, PS5, and Switch 2 is a toggle in the web interface, and daily backups are included.
It’s a weaker pick for modders, it only supports Valheim Plus and BepInEx.

09. Indifferent Broccoli
Per-player tiersSmall groups that want to try before paying
Yes, that’s the real name. Indifferent Broccoli prices Valheim by player count, from $5.99 a month for a solo world to $18.99 for ten. RAM isn’t capped on any plan, so a sprawling base won’t push you into a bigger tier.
You can try it for two days without a credit card, and after that you still have a seven-day refund window. Players regularly praise how quick and patient its support staff are.
The Valheim page is explicitly 1.0 and Deep North ready, and crossplay covers all four platforms. There’s no one-click mod installer, but BepInEx and full file access are included, and a Discord bot lets you start or stop the server from chat.
Locations are the limited, just ten cities across North America, Europe, Singapore, and India, and nothing in Oceania or South America.

10. LOW.MS
Per-slot tiersModded servers that may need to roll back a version
Mods broke the week 1.0 came out, and LOW.MS has the tidiest answer to that. Its Nexus panel switches between seven Steam branches in one click, including default_pre1_0, the last build before 1.0. Roll back, keep playing, and move up again once your mods catch up.
Mods come from a Thunderstore browser inside the panel. Pick one and it installs with BepInEx and every dependency sorted for you. Each server keeps up to 20 cloud backups, and you can lock the important ones so they never rotate out.
Plans are priced by slot, from $10.99 for 10 players to $49.99 for 64. Anything past 10 needs mods, since vanilla still stops at ten. The 13 locations cover the US, Europe, Singapore, Sydney, and Melbourne, though the Asia-Pacific ones appear to add a surcharge at checkout.

11. SparkedHost
RAM-based plansSmall groups on a tight budget
SparkedHost is one of the cheapest ways into a real Valheim server. The Thor plan costs $6 a month for 4 GB of RAM, though SparkedHost rates it for about two players. A full group of ten belongs on the $12 Valhalla plan with 8 GB.
That’s still low for what’s underneath: Ryzen 9 CPUs, DDR5, and NVMe drives in RAID 1. At checkout you choose vanilla, Valheim Plus, or BepInEx for free, and there’s a free migration option if you’re bringing a world from another host. A one-day free trial lets you test before paying.
The weak spot is how current the page is. It mentions crossplay in general terms but doesn’t name PS5 or Switch 2, and says nothing about 1.0 or Deep North. Three days of backups are free, and extra backup slots cost up to $1 a month.

12. BisectHosting
RAM-based plansGroups that play several games, not only Valheim
BisectHosting’s BisectOne plan isn’t really a Valheim plan. You rent RAM at $2.99 per GB, and the same server can switch between more than 110 games. That suits a group that plays Valheim in bursts between other titles.
Watch the entry price. The $5.99 plan gets you 2 GB, which Bisect rates for one to four players. Its own guidance puts a full group of ten on the 12 GB plan at $35.99 a month, which makes it one of the pricier picks for a busy world. Paying yearly takes 20% off.
You get 21 locations with free switching, crossplay for every platform including PS5 and Switch 2, and 1.0 support from launch day. The Starbase panel has a World Modifiers screen, so raids, combat, and resource rates are a few clicks away.

Honorable Mentions
You set your own slot count on Ryzen 9 7950X hardware, and its Thunderstore installer can roll a mod back if an update breaks it. Crossplay covers PS5 and Switch 2. From $10 a month for 4 GB.
Better known for Minecraft, Apex sells Valheim plans from $7.99 a month for 2 GB, with a free subdomain. Its Valheim FAQ still lists only PC and Xbox crossplay and hasn’t been updated for 1.0.
The cheapest 10-slot option, at $7 a month for 4 GB of RAM. Crossplay covers Steam and Xbox only. It keeps your server files for three months after you stop paying.
What Valheim 1.0 Changed for Server Owners
The 1.0 update added more than a biome. A few changes matter to anyone running a server.
- Old worlds convert on first load. 1.0 uses a new save system that splits world data into chunks, so saves are faster and survive a crash mid-write. The first time an older world loads, the game converts it and makes a backup. A conversion bug stripped levels from items on item and armor stands until hotfix 1.0.12, so take your own backup before that first boot.
- The Deep North only appears in unexplored areas. Old worlds carry over, but new terrain generates only where nobody has been yet. Iron Gate recommends a fresh world if you want the whole thing.
- The player cap is still 10. Hosts that sell 16, 32, or 64 slots rely on mods such as Valheim Plus to lift it.
- Crossplay runs through a relay. A server started with crossplay enabled routes players through Microsoft’s PlayFab relay, so no port forwarding is needed. Console players join by join code, IP, or the server list. Consoles can’t run a dedicated server themselves, which is why mixed groups rent one.
- Mods and consoles don’t mix. Console players can’t install mods, so a server that requires client-side mods locks them out.
Switch 2 crossplay
Switch 2 players briefly lost crossplay at launch because a hotfix couldn’t ship to the console right away. Iron Gate says all platforms can play together again, but some hosts’ FAQs still carry the old warning.
How to Choose a Valheim Server Host
Start with who’s playing and where they live. The rest follows from that.
- Count your players honestly. Ten or fewer works on any host here. More than ten means a modded server, so look at GTXGaming, LOW.MS, or Survival Servers.
- Pick a location near most of the group. Latency hurts more in combat than anywhere else. If your friends are spread across continents, DatHost’s 49 cities give you the best shot at a fair middle.
- Compare RAM, not only slots. Hosts generally suggest about 8 GB for a vanilla 10-player world and 16 GB or more once mods or big bases come in. A cheap plan with 2 GB won’t hold a full group.
- Confirm crossplay if anyone plays on console. Most hosts support PS5 and Switch 2 now, but ScalaCube and SparkedHost don’t say so on their Valheim pages.
- Read the refund window. It ranges from 24 hours at GTXGaming to 14 days at DatHost. Test in the first day, not the first week.
FAQ
How much RAM does a Valheim server need?
Hosts generally recommend about 8 GB for a vanilla world with up to 10 players and 16 GB or more for modded servers or large builds.
Can I host a Valheim server for free?
Yes, on your own PC or a spare machine, using the free Valheim Dedicated Server tool on Steam.
Can PS5 and Switch 2 players join a PC server?
Yes, as long as the server runs with crossplay enabled. Console players usually join with a code shown in the host’s control panel.
Do I need a new world to reach the Deep North?
No, but it only generates in parts of the map nobody has explored. If your group has already charted the far north, a fresh world is the only way to see all of it.
