An applicant tracking system is where hiring actually lives. Every job post, application, interview score, and offer ends up in it, and whatever you pick tends to stay for years because moving candidate history out is painful.
The market changed a lot in the past year. SAP bought SmartRecruiters, Workday bought Paradox, and Oracle stopped selling Taleo to new customers in February 2026.
Almost every ATS below now ships AI agents that screen applicants, take interview notes, or build reports. Most also added an MCP server, so you can ask Claude or ChatGPT about your pipeline directly. Fake and AI-written applications became a real problem too, and several software now flag them.
This guide is for in-house hiring teams choosing the core system. If you’re looking at tools that sit on top of an ATS, such as sourcing, AI screening, and interview intelligence, or you run a recruiting agency, see our guide to recruitment software.

Best Applicant Tracking Systems
01. Greenhouse
Structured hiring ATSMid-size and large companies that want a consistent interview process
Greenhouse built its name on structured hiring. Every role gets an interview plan, a kit for each interviewer, and a scorecard tied to the skills you agreed on up front. Hiring managers who’ve never run a search before get a process to follow instead of making one up.
In AI space, Greenhouse Notetaker records interviews and maps its notes to the scorecard questions, so the write-up matches what you were meant to assess. An Analytics Chart Agent turns a typed question into a chart. Greenhouse MCP lets approved AI tools such as Claude, Gemini, and Copilot read hiring data under the same permissions as the user, with an audit trail.
For fraud, Real Talent checks phone, email, IP, and location signals to flag spam and fake applications, and candidates can verify their identity with CLEAR. Greenhouse says it never rejects anyone automatically. In May 2026 it bought Ezra AI Labs, which runs structured voice screening interviews with rubric scoring, currently in the US only.
The integration list is one of the largest here, with more than 450 partners in its directory. For a deeper look, read our Greenhouse review.

It sells three plans, Core, Plus, and Pro, and quotes each one based on hiring volume and how complex your organization is.
02. Pinpoint
Multi-stream ATSIn-house teams running several hiring processes at once
Most companies don’t hire one way. Corporate roles, hourly staff, graduates, and agency-filled jobs each need their own stages, forms, and approvals. Pinpoint keeps each of those as a separate workflow inside one system, which is why it is popular among retailers, hospitality groups, and other multi-site employers.
The AI Hiring Copilot summarizes candidates, prepares interview questions, drafts emails, and moves people between stages when you ask in plain language. AI Match Score shows its reasoning next to each score, AI Notetaker links summaries back to transcript timestamps, and the Candidate Companion answers applicant questions around the clock.
Pinpoint MCP works with Claude, ChatGPT, and Microsoft Copilot. In October 2025 it gained ISO 42001 certification for AI management, useful if your legal team asks how AI is governed. You also get a branded careers site builder, one-way video interviews, self-scheduling, and background checks.
Pricing scales with company size and features, not recruiter seats. That means hiring managers can log in without adding cost, and feedback stays out of email.

03. Ashby
All-in-one ATSFast-growing teams that want deep recruiting analytics
Ashby puts the ATS, a candidate CRM, sourcing, interview scheduling, and analytics in one product. It’s popular with AI and tech companies and now has more than 4,400 customers.
Analytics is in-depth. You can build reports on almost any field, add formula fields, and compare periods without exporting anything. An AI report builder writes the report from a plain question, and AI interpretations explain what changed.
Ashby moves fast on AI. Ashby Assistant answers questions about your hiring data with sources and also works in Slack. Custom Agents turn repeat tasks into reusable workflows written in English, and Scheduled Agents, in open beta run them on a timer and send results to Slack or email. The MCP server connects Ashby to ChatGPT, Claude, and Cursor on every plan.
The AI Notetaker and the Advanced Scheduling auto-scheduler are paid add-ons.

Pricing
Foundations costs $400 a month for companies with up to 100 employees, with 10% off for an annual commitment. It includes 1,500 AI credits a month. Plus, for 101 to 1,000 employees, is quoted on company size and usage.
04. Workable
ATS and HR suiteSmall and mid-size businesses that want transparent pricing
Workable is one of the few ATS software that lists prices and lets you start a trial without talking to sales. It posts to more than 200 job boards in one click, and it includes a lightweight HR system with onboarding, time off, documents, and e-signatures, so a small company may not need a separate HR tool.
Workable Agent allows you to describe the role, and the agent builds the candidate profile and job description. It then sources from more than 400 million profiles, messages candidates, and scores each person against up to 14 criteria with written reasoning. In September 2026, four more agents for job briefs, sourcing, screening, and engagement includes in all paid accounts.
AI runs on credits. Every paid account gets 3,000 credits, and screening a candidate uses one while a candidate chat uses ten. The MCP server connects Workable to Claude, ChatGPT, and other MCP clients at no extra cost.

Premier bundles texting, video interviews, assessments, and referrals, which are paid add-ons on Standard. The 15-day trial doesn’t include Workable Agent.
05. Deel ATS
ATS in global HR suiteCompanies hiring across countries that already use Deel
Deel added its own ATS in 2026, and it makes the most sense for companies already running HR or payroll on Deel. The straightforward Deel concept is an approved headcount becomes a job opening, and an accepted offer becomes an employee record.
That handoff is useful for distributed teams. Right after the offer, you can hire the person as an employee through Deel’s employer of record in 130+ countries, as a contractor, or through its US PEO. Onboarding, payroll, and equipment then follow in the same system.
The ATS covers the essentials. AI drafts job posts with suggested pay ranges, sources from internal talent pools and LinkedIn, and screens applicants against your criteria. The AI Interview Assistant records with consent, transcribes, and summarizes. You can post to more than 1,000 job boards and schedule interviews through Google Workspace or Microsoft Teams.
Deel’s Hiring agent recommends talent partners and helps with sourcing, and it also works inside ChatGPT. An ATS Pro tier adds more AI for sourcing and interview analysis.

Deel Find Talent package at $14 per worker per month, covering job posting, AI screening, offers, scheduling, and interview summaries. The ATS requires Deel’s HR platform, which starts at $5 per employee per month.
06. Lever
ATS and CRMMid-market teams that source and nurture candidates
Lever was one of the first products to put an ATS and a recruiting CRM on the same candidate record. Someone you sourced two years ago, nurtured by email, and who then applied shows up as one person. For teams that do a lot of outbound work, that makes rediscovering past candidates much easier.
Its AI is built around interviews and matching. The AI Interview Companion gives interviewers a structured guide, takes notes, flags biased language, and writes a summary afterward. Unlimited transcripts and summaries come with the core product. Talent Fit ranks applicants against the job and explains its reasoning, and now you can weight skills, experience, education, and certifications for each role.
Fraud Signals checks email validity, phone numbers, bot-like behavior, and inconsistent work history. AI Screening by VONQ, a conversational screening agent, is a paid add-on.
Lever belongs to Employ, which also owns JazzHR and Jobvite.

07. Teamtailor
Employer branding ATSCompanies that win candidates on brand and career site
Teamtailor started with the career site and built the ATS around it. You can put together a polished, on-brand careers page without a developer. More than 13,000 companies in over 90 countries use it, with a strong base in Europe.
Every plan includes unlimited job posts and unlimited users. Bringing every hiring manager and interviewer into the system doesn’t raise the bill, which is rare.
Co-pilot is the AI add-on. It screens applicants against the criteria you set, summarizes resumes and video meetings, suggests interview questions, and drafts rejection emails. You can build custom analytics charts from a description. It also flags hidden instructions in resumes, a trick some applicants now use to game AI screening.
An MCP add-on connects Claude or ChatGPT to your account, read-only by default. WhatsApp messaging in the candidate inbox was added recently, and there are more than 450 integrations.

08. Rippling Recruiting
ATS in HR suiteGrowing companies already running HR and payroll on Rippling
Rippling Recruiting is less about the ATS on its own and more about what happens around it. Approved headcount and pay bands flow into requisitions, so recruiters don’t work from stale numbers. When someone accepts an offer, Rippling can set up payroll, benefits, app accounts, and a laptop.
The AI features are practical. Application Review screens applicants against your criteria, explains each decision, and flags criteria that could cause problems before you apply them. Interview Assistant records, transcribes, and summarizes interviews, and feedback summaries combine every interviewer’s scorecard. Interviewers see earlier feedback only after submitting their own, which keeps opinions independent.
Candidates can book, reschedule, or cancel simple interviews themselves. Referral bonuses pay out through Rippling Payroll, and hiring data can be reported alongside performance and retention. Rippling’s MCP server covers hiring data along with the rest of the platform.
If you haven’t picked an HR platform yet, compare options in our guide to employee management software first.

Rippling prices Recruiting per employee per month on top of its core platform and quotes on request.
09. Zoho Recruit
ATS and CRMBudget-conscious small businesses and Zoho users
Zoho Recruit is one of the lowest-cost ATSoptions, and its free plan works for one recruiter with one open job. It comes in two editions: one for corporate HR teams and one for staffing agencies with client and vendor portals. I’ll focus on the corporate one.
You can bend it to fit odd processes. Blueprint enforces the steps each hire must follow, and workflows, custom functions, and layout rules handle the rest. If you already use Zoho CRM, Zoho People, or Zoho Analytics, it slots in neatly.
Zia, Zoho’s AI, writes job descriptions, summarizes profiles, and runs sourcing, screening, and assessment bots on your career site. AI candidate matching is on the Enterprise plan. Zoho Recruit also has an MCP server that connects Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, and coding tools to your data with role-based permissions.

10. Manatal
AI-powered ATSSmall teams that want strong AI at a low price
Manatal gives small teams AI features at lower cost. AI Recommendations score candidate against the job with adjustable weighting, and AI enrichment fills out profiles from more than 20 public and social sources.
AI Copilot summarizes candidates, runs fit and gap analysis, builds interview prep, and compares candidates side by side. AI Notetaker connects to Google and Microsoft calendars and saves full transcripts to candidate profiles. AI Interviewer, a paid add-on, runs asynchronous video screening around the clock in six languages.
It works well for teams hiring in several countries. You can post to more than 2,500 job channels, share jobs on WhatsApp, WeChat, and Line, and use built-in tools for GDPR, CCPA, and PDPA. Every plan includes unlimited hiring managers. The MCP server connects ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini to live ATS data on the top plan.

11. Dover
Free startup ATSFounders and early-stage startups hiring without a budget
Dover’s ATS is free with unlimited users and unlimited jobs. Adding interviewers or opening another role never changes the bill, so founders can run a real hiring process before anyone owns the recruiting budget.
The free plan covers the essentials. It posts to more than 100 job boards, generates a careers page and job descriptions, connects to Gmail and Outlook, and handles scheduling and email templates. A Chrome extension lets you source from LinkedIn, and there’s referral tracking and an agency portal. Dover’s MCP server lets founders ask Claude or ChatGPT about their pipeline, and it’s available on the free tier.
The Premium plan adds AI applicant scoring, an AI notetaker that pre-fills scorecards, and LinkedIn job posts. Dover also runs a marketplace of vetted part-time recruiters you can bring in for a hard role, while keeping everything in the same ATS.

Pros & Cons
PROS

The ATS is free. Premium costs $199 a month and adds AI applicant scoring, AI note-taking, and up to 150 LinkedIn job posts. Marketplace recruiters set their own rates.
12. SmartRecruiters
Enterprise ATSLarge employers and SAP SuccessFactors customers
SmartRecruiters is an enterprise hiring platform with more than 4,000 companies using it. SAP completed its acquisition in September 2025 and runs it as a standalone business, so it still connects to Workday, Oracle, and other HR systems.
For SAP, SmartRecruiters for SAP SuccessFactors launched in March 2026 with a single login and synced user, job, and org data. SAP says existing SuccessFactors Recruiting customers won’t have to migrate.
Its AI goes by the name Winston. Winston Match scores candidates with separate scores for skills, experience, and education. Winston Screen builds shortlists, and Winston Chat lets candidates apply by conversation, with assessments built into the chat. Winston Companion handles screening and scheduling tasks for recruiters and answers pipeline questions.
High-volume employers in retail, hospitality, and healthcare get SMS and WhatsApp messaging, dynamic scheduling, and a dedicated High Volume package.

13. iCIMS
Enterprise ATSLarge enterprises with complex or high-volume hiring
iCIMS runs hiring for more than 4,400 companies, including a quarter of the Fortune 500. It’s built for organisations in many countries, many brands, and very large applicant volumes on one platform. With more than 800 partner technologies, the background check, assessment, and HR system connections you need probably already exist.
The product comes in three parts. iCIMS Hire is the ATS, Engage is the candidate CRM, and Employer Branding covers career sites, a recruiting chatbot, and video.
Frontline AI handles hourly hiring by conversation over SMS, WhatsApp, and the web. In September 2026 iCIMS announced its Intelligent Hiring Platform. iCIMS Copilot writes job descriptions, interview questions, and search strings, and translates career site content.

How to Choose an ATS
Start with your size and your HR system. Those two things narrow the list faster than any feature comparison.
- Early-stage startup: Dover costs nothing, and Ashby or Workable are the usual next step once hiring picks up.
- Small business on a budget: Zoho Recruit and Manatal have the lowest published prices. Workable costs more but bundles basic HR.
- Growing company that wants one system: Ashby covers sourcing, CRM, scheduling, and analytics without extra tools.
- Already on an HR platform: Rippling Recruiting, Deel ATS, Workday Recruiting, or SmartRecruiters for SAP remove the handoff between hiring and onboarding.
- Mid-size or large company with many hiring managers: Greenhouse for structured interviews, Pinpoint for several separate hiring streams, Lever if you source heavily.
- Enterprise or high-volume hourly hiring: iCIMS, SmartRecruiters, or Workday with Paradox.
- Recruiting agency: You need client and placement tracking.
Then discuss with ATS vendors on a few things during the demo.

FAQ
Is an ATS worth it for a small business?
Yes, once you’re hiring more than a handful of people a year. Even a free option like Dover or Zoho Recruit’s free plan keeps applicants, feedback, and emails in one place.
How much does an applicant tracking system cost?
It ranges widely. Dover is free, Manatal starts at $15 per user a month, Workable starts at $299 a month, and SmartRecruiters starts at $14,995. Enterprise systems like Greenhouse and iCIMS are quoted on request.
What’s the difference between an ATS and recruitment software?
An ATS tracks applicants through your hiring pipeline and acts as the system of record. Recruitment software is the wider category, including sourcing, candidate engagement, AI screening, scheduling, and interview notes that often sit on top of an ATS.
Can an ATS reject a qualified candidate?
It can if knockout questions or screening criteria are set too narrowly. Most vendors in this guide say their AI ranks and explains rather than rejecting on its own, but check the settings and keep a person reviewing rejections.
What is an MCP server in an ATS?
It’s a connector that lets AI assistants like Claude or ChatGPT read, and sometimes update, your ATS data with your permissions. Greenhouse, Ashby, Workable, Pinpoint, Teamtailor, Rippling, Zoho Recruit, Manatal, and Dover all offer one.
